We are glad to announce that on 31 May an important step towards recognition of study abroad was made: MEP Victor Negrescu, a member of the European Parliament who strongly supports the cause of ‘Recognise Study Abroad’, officially registered a Question (rule 128 of the European Parliament) to openly debate the issue of recognition of school study periods abroad in a plenary session. From 24 to 29 April the 6th Euro-Arab Youth forum took place in Fez, Morocco hosted by the European Youth Forum, the League of Arab States and the Council of Europe. 36 participants from Europe and 80 from the Arab Region gathered to discuss the main goal and topic of the forum: “Overcoming hate speech together”. More than 75 young people from the countries of the Sahel region (Mali, Burkina Faso, Chad, Mauritania and Niger), Europe and the Maghreb, as well as African diasporas based in Europe met in Bamako, Mali from 3 to 6 June 2017 in the framework of a dialogue between the youth of the Sahel and the institutions of their country. As announced at the end of 2016, the discussions on the future of Erasmus+ after 2020 are starting this year, at the same time as the mid-term evaluation of the programme. EFIL has contributed to the consultation on the mid-term evaluation and is taking part in the meetings organised by the Erasmus+ civil society coalition put together by the Lifelong Learning Platform and the European Youth Forum. The European Commission is now piloting the European Solidarity Corps (ESC), using eight different programmes, each one with its own legal basis, objectives and budget (Erasmus+, EaSI, LIFE, Asylum and Migration Fund, Health programme, the Europe for Citizens programme, European Regional Development Fund, Agricultural Fund for Rural Development). On 3 and 4 May the European Youth Week took place in Brussels. The members of EFIL’s European Pool of Representatives, Simone Muhlbach (AFS Belgium French), Hannes Verdegem and Lynn Bemus (AFS Belgium Flanders), attended the conference this time on behalf of EFIL. EFIL is closely following the process of revision of the EU key competences framework. We have issued a position paper and contributed to the public consultation. Every year in spring, EFIL attends the Annual Conference and General Assembly of the Lifelong Learning Platform. This year it was in Tallinn, Estonia, from 31 May to 2 June.
